Direct Energy, PA residents, is part of a family of brands that provides electricity, natural gas and other energy services to more than 13 million homes and businesses in North America, including Pennsylvania.
In fact, its operations in 10 Canadian provinces and 46 states in the U.S. (as well as the District of Columbia), make the company one of the largest competitive energy suppliers in North America.
There are four different lines of business offered by Direct Energy in PA:
Business: This service is designed for commercial and industrial customers with small to large-sized businesses, government entities and public institutions. Direct Energy offers them natural gas as well as electricity contracts, and energy efficiency management/services.
Residential: Residents can take advantage of natural gas and electricity pricing plans, along with carbon-neutral or “green” plans. They also choose from either stable-rate plans or variable-priced options. They should also ask about Direct Energy prepaid. PA residents, under such a plan, could pay an amount ahead of time and monitor usage throughout the month, adding more money to their account as needed.
Services: Residents and business owners in deregulated areas have the choice of getting services from Direct Energy. PA residents would be entitled to HVAC installation and service, water heaters, energy audits, plumbing, protection plans, energy management consulting services as well as building automation.
Upstream and Trading: These services include natural gas production, wind power purchase agreements, gas-fired power generation, open market procurement for power and natural gas, energy auctions, carbon and renewable energy credits as well as the storage and transportation or gas.
It’s important to remember that just because Pennsylvania is a deregulated state does not mean that every area, county and neighborhood is in a deregulated zone. Every retail electricity provider supplies a different range of counties and cities. For example, the company's direct electricity in PA reaches areas in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Abington, Bristol, Bensalem, Allentown, Levittown, Scranton and Lancaster areas. Direct Energy PA natural gas service is available in the Pittsburgh, York, Washington, Hanover and Coraopolis areas.

If you decide that one of Pennsylvania’s retail electricity providers, such as Direct Energy, is right for you, then you are almost there – picking the right company for you is the hard part, switching is the easy part.
Your local utility will still be in charge and monitor the distribution and delivery of your energy, but electricity will now come from your supplier. You will still receive just one bill a month, but the charges will be separated between your utility charges and your supplier charges from your retail supplier. Remember – your utility company won’t be changing at all, so you can count on it to still be there to read your meter and be there in case of an emergency. For example, if you have natural gas and notice an unusual smell, you would call your local utility. In this case, you might have a gas leak.
